Seminar Speaker Christy Crowe Childers: Paving the Road for Female Truck Accident Lawyers

Christy Crowe Childers, one of the first five female NBTA board-certified truck accident attorneys in the United States and the first in Georgia, will be a featured speaker at the “Winning Truck Wreck Cases” seminar on August 4, 2025. The event is hosted by David W. Craig and Scott A. Faultless and presented by the Indiana Trial Lawyers Association.

“We are so fortunate to have such a trailblazing truck wreck attorney speak at our conference this year. I have heard her speak many times and always learn something new,” co-chair of the conference David Craig said.

A founding partner of Childers & McCain, LLC in Macon, GA, Childers has been practicing for 20 years, consulting with other trucking attorneys across the U.S. and formerly serving as the Education Chair for the Academy of Truck Accident Attorneys (ATAA). In 2024, she received the National Board of Trial Advocacy Presidents Award as a result of her support for people, particularly women, becoming NBTA-certified truck accident attorneys.

Big Rig + Big Damages = Big Rig Damages House

Childers’ seminar session, titled “Big Rig + Big Damages = Big Rig Damages House”, will focus on Damages House, a new damages model that concretizes non-economic damages in commercial motor vehicle accidents. This model helps judges, jurors and clients better understand less tangible damages, such as the impact on the ability to work and loss of enjoyment of life, through the framework of a house.

This storytelling approach asks people to visualize each category of non-economic damages within the different rooms of a house. For example, the office or study may be used to represent the loss of capacity to labor and earn money. Ultimately, the model helps jurors comprehend how these seemingly vague damages can deeply impact the lives of clients.

Using this model also allows clients to provide a clear and powerful testimony. Assigning each loss to a “room” helps jurors step into the perspective of the client, creating a relatable and emotional picture of the extent of a client’s losses, regardless of how tangible they may or may not be.

Childers will delve into the Damages House model during her seminar session, teaching fellow attorneys to assign millions of dollars to non-economic damages in an easier manner. While this method works well with all case sizes, it is especially beneficial for high-stakes trucking litigation.

Mother Truckers Rally

Childers organizes an annual continuing legal education (CLE) event, called the Mother Truckers Rally. Beginning in 2022, these adventure CLEs bring together women trial attorneys from all over the country to expand their legal education in several areas, including trucking accident law, and participate in educational and adrenaline-fueled activities.

Last year’s rally took place in Las Vegas, where attendees crushed cars with excavators, blew up a car, drove monster trucks, shot flamethrowers, and then followed up with a day of learning from renowned trial consultants from across the country. Previous rally activities also include: driving tractor-trailers, fly fishing, dog sledding, and landing helicopters on glaciers. In addition to thrill seeking, the rally provides women in the field with the opportunity to network and sharpen their skills to help expand their practice.

Empowering Women in Trucking Accident Law

As one of the first women in the nation to become a board-certified truck accident attorney, Childers makes it a point to collaborate with fellow female attorneys who practice trucking accident and injury law. She and two other women founded Sisterhood of the 8, a 501(c)(3) non-profit for women trial lawyers and women in the trucking and transportation industry to add more voices to the mission of creating safer roads.

The organization brings women trial lawyers together to establish and foster a supportive network, providing resources and mentorship to aid women in securing 8-figure verdicts. Childers herself most recently succeeded in obtaining an 8-figure result from a truck burning case, and was also part of a trial team that obtained an 8-figure verdict in a traumatic brain injury trial through her presentation of the damages story through lay witnesses.

In addition to its networking and educational opportunities, the Sisterhood of the 8 hosts the Mother Truckers Rally, which then raises funds to provide scholarships for women making a positive impact in the transportation industry.
