Indiana has consistently been one of the deadliest states for truck crashes. The most recent data released by the federal government has Indiana ranked among the top 10 states for truck accident fatalities. Part of the reason is because Indiana is considered the crossroads of America, meaning our state’s highways and interstates are heavily used by commercial motor vehicles going both North and South and East and West across the country. This results in a large number of commercial motor vehicle accidents—these include wrecks involving semi tractor-trailers, buses, tankers, and other large and heavy trucks.
Truck accidents happen every day, and they can be devastating and life-altering. Board-certified Truck Accident Attorneys David W. Craig and Scott A. Faultless, of Craig, Kelley & Faultless, are at the forefront of transportation law, fighting to protect victims of truck accidents and advocating for changes that protect the public. Their goal is to make a positive difference not only in the lives of clients, but also the people of Indiana.
Craig, Kelley & Faultless is dedicated to informing the public about the dangers of commercial motor vehicles. Although David and Scott believe that most truck drivers and trucking companies are professional and safe, unfortunately, the bad and dangerous ones exist and continue to harm and kill innocent people. In an effort to keep the public aware of the dangers posed by commercial motor vehicles, David has written two best-selling books. He also hosts a podcast, After the Crash, and the law firm regularly puts out articles, press releases and blog content on the trucking industry and truck accidents. But David knew there was more work to be done.
In 2026, Craig, Kelley & Faultless are taking the dissemination of truck accident information to an entirely new level. It all started when David had an idea. What he realized was that it took a couple years for the federal government to compile and report commercial motor vehicle accidents. David thought that current information about heavy truck accidents—like semi tractor-trailers, box trucks, tankers, buses, and other commercial motor vehicles—would be helpful in understanding the trends, dangers, and forensic analysis of truck wrecks.
Craig, Kelley & Faultless hired a full-time software engineer to help David realize his dream of tracking semi wrecks as close to real-time as possible. Nick Perin joined the law firm as its Principal Software Engineer in 2025 and began designing software that would track these wrecks. This patent pending software tracks truck accident data on an interactive online map. Nick, David, and Impact Video recently put the final touches on the program and are excited to launch the map, first cataloging wrecks in Indiana and eventually throughout the country. This program is called Semi Crash Map and can be found at semicrashmap.com.
About Semi Crash Map
The Semi Crash Map is a tool that utilizes data collected from news services, police reports and other sources to provide the general public with information about truck accidents. The map records wrecks involving commercial motor vehicles, such as semis, flat-bed trucks, box trucks, tankers, dump trucks, tractor-trailers, other heavy trucks and buses across the state of Indiana. Oftentimes, governmental releases of this type of data are not published for over a year. Through the Semi Crash Map, this information is promptly gathered and published so the public can readily access it.
Users can utilize this map in a variety of ways. If they would like to look at wrecks in a specific location, they can enter a highway or road name in the search bar to look at those areas. If users want to see how many wrecks happened within a specific time frame, they can use the date range selector to adjust the map to the dates they are looking for. Once they have chosen a location and date range, users can click on the markers for information about a specific wreck.
Each map marker includes:
- A general overview of how a wreck occurred
- The date and time of the wreck
- The location of the wreck
- Where the information was sourced from
- A video from Craig, Kelley & Faultless
- The firm’s contact information if a user needs to hire a truck accident attorney
- Additional resources for those that have been affected by a truck wreck.
In addition to what the public sees on the Semi Crash Map, Craig, Kelley & Faultless has a dashboard that allows them to track each wreck. They can search for the days of the year that are most dangerous, as well as the highways, interstates, and roadways that have higher risks of accidents. The dashboard also shows the causes of accidents and a variety of other key factors that the law firm can use to keep the public aware of truck wreck news.
By providing the public with easy access to truck wreck data soon after a crash happens, we can help raise awareness around road and truck safety. Furthermore, the gathering of current data provides the attorneys at Craig, Kelley & Faultless with the opportunity to monitor safety issues. That information will grant them the ability to be more strategic when advocating for legislation, both in supporting bills that enhance roadway safety and in opposing those that could have unintended negative consequences. This database will ultimately help to prevent accidents and save the lives of those that drive on Indiana roadways every day.
Semi Crash Map: A Tool for Identifying Dangerous Trucking Trends
The Semi Crash Map was developed in 2025 by Nationally Recognized Truck Accident Attorney David W. Craig with the help of employees at Craig, Kelley & Faultless. This educational and informative tool provides the public with information about dangerous trucking trends as they happen. It is aimed at those who wish to use the map’s data to educate themselves about local semi-truck wrecks.
David’s goal is to create public access to truck accident data and trends, which equips users with knowledge and information that can make everyone more aware of the potential dangers that come with sharing the road with semi-trucks. Anyone can access and navigate the map for free.
Map markers are updated daily, pulling from news sources and data analytics to track truck wrecks when they occur. Users can click on any map marker to read more about a specific wreck or use the entire map to look at broader trends.
