Since 1970, Gary McMinoway has dedicated his technician career to ensuring vehicles and industrial equipment of all sizes are safe for their operators and anyone interacting with the equipment. He began his career repairing light-medium and heavy-duty trucks, motorcycles, scooters, construction and farm equipment, go-carts, and more. In 1990, McMinoway learned to conduct forensic mechanical inspections of vehicles while working as a Service Manager in a brake specialty shop before eventually co-owning Maximum Fleet Service, where he supervised the performance of truck and trailer repair, in addition to personally administering forensic inspections.
McMinoway’s decades of mechanical experience led to him achieving his status as a National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Certified Master Medium and Heavy-Duty Truck Technician for two decades before choosing not to be recertified during the COVID-19 pandemic. He currently co-owns GL Mechanical LLC, which specializes in forensic inspections of automobiles, trucks of all sizes, motorcycles, scooters and construction equipment.
Common Mechanical Issues Found in Truck Accidents
McMinoway’s session, titled “Mechanical Issues in Truck Crashes”, will go over the different kinds of mechanical issues that many inspectors see in truck wrecks. According to Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations, it is the responsibility of professional drivers and motor carriers to ensure their trucks are in proper working condition. This includes an inspection of the vehicle for mechanical issues prior to beginning their drive for the day. When drivers fail to conduct a thorough inspection or report problems that arise, that is when mechanical issues lead to severe truck wrecks.
Using his mechanical and forensic inspection expertise, McMinoway will educate attendees on the types of mechanical issues he has seen in truck accidents and how these issues can result in devastating crashes. By furthering their knowledge of the technical problems commonly seen in truck wreck cases, guests will leave the session with a better understanding of the mechanical issues they should look for when investigating and how they affect the foundations of these cases.
