When choosing a truck accident attorney, one question often gets overlooked: who will help you navigate what comes after the case is over?
A settlement or verdict may resolve the legal process, but it often marks the beginning of a new set of decisions. How will you set up lifelong medical care, financial planning, and long-term adjustments that take time and expertise to manage?
That’s where the right attorney makes a difference beyond the courtroom. Strong legal advocates don’t just focus on compensation. They help clients prepare for what comes next by connecting them with trusted professionals such as life care planners, financial advisors, trust and estate attorneys, and other experts who can help provide stability and peace of mind.
Building the Right Support Team
When evaluating a truck accident attorney in St. Louis, many people naturally focus on courtroom experience, negotiation skills, and past results against trucking companies and insurers. Those things matter. But a client-focused law firm will also provide resources and guidance beyond litigation, not just during it.
When picking an attorney to represent you, keep in mind that their team is going to be with you for months, if not years. Find a team that shares your values, that believes in your case, that will go the distance to keep you and your family safe now and into the future. A strong truck accident attorney doesn’t work alone. They build a team of experts tailored to your circumstances to help protect your future, including:
Life Care Planners – Assess long-term medical, rehabilitation, and daily living needs.
Financial Planners – Help preserve and manage settlement funds through independent financial guidance.
Structured Settlement Advisors – Evaluate whether annuities or structured payouts may be appropriate for long-term financial security.
Trust & Estate Professionals – Establish trusts and other financial tools to protect assets and support future needs.
Economic & Damages Experts – Calculate future losses, including medical expenses, lost earnings, and ongoing care costs.
It is the job of these seasoned professionals to anticipate the possibilities and set plans in motion to address them, come what may. The lawyer you choose should take the time to understand what matters most to you and help you find practical solutions that make everyday life easier. That could mean installing ramps, modifying a home, arranging for ongoing care, purchasing specialized equipment, or finding creative ways to help you maintain independence.
At the end of the day, your lawyer needs to be able to help you move forward with confidence by providing you with the support, resources, and plan you need.

Partnering with Clients to Turn Tragedy into Power
One of the core values of our firm is making a meaningful difference. When someone comes to us after a catastrophic injury or the loss of a loved one, we understand that no legal outcome can undo what has happened. While a settlement or verdict may provide financial security, it cannot erase grief, answer every question, or restore what has been lost.
Over the years, we have learned that healing takes many forms. Every person grieves differently, and there is no single path forward. Some people find comfort in focusing on their family and rebuilding their daily lives. Others discover that creating something positive in honor of a loved one helps them find purpose during an incredibly difficult time.
For those who feel called to do so, community involvement, philanthropy, and advocacy can become meaningful parts of the healing process. Managing partner David W. Craig often says, “By helping people, we help ourselves.” While no act of service can take away the pain of a loss, many families have found that helping others allows them to honor a loved one’s memory and create a lasting legacy.
One client, the father of a young man who was killed in an accident, used the funds he recovered to start a scholarship fund at the university his son had been attending.
Another family came to us after a loved one was killed when a police vehicle, operating without lights or sirens during a non-emergency run, struck another car. Our client was looking for more than monetary compensation in that case; they also wanted to make sure nobody else fell victim to the same circumstances. During mediation, we insisted that the mayor of the city and the chief of police sit down with us and listen to our demands. As a result, that police department changed its enforcement policies and how it trains its officers, greatly reducing the likelihood that the same thing would ever happen again.
In another case, a young girl was struck and killed while crossing a busy street on her way to school. There was no crossing guard present, despite the fact that children regularly used that crosswalk each morning. As part of the resolution of the case, changes were made to ensure crossing guards were present when students were actually traveling to and from school. While nothing could bring that child back to her family, her legacy helped create safer conditions for countless other children.
Our firm is perhaps best known for our bike helmet giveaways. More than twenty-five years ago, we represented the parents of a boy who was killed when he was hit by a car while riding his bike without a helmet. We will never know if a bike helmet would have saved his life. But what we did after that case was take our fees and use them to buy bike helmets to give away to any child who needed one, surpassing ten thousand bike helmets. We have been told on numerous occasions that those helmets have made a difference in saving many children from head injuries when they are riding bikes, skateboards, or scooters.
Each story serves as a reminder that even in the wake of profound loss, positive change is possible, when the time is right. When clients express a desire to create something meaningful from tragedy, we are honored to stand beside them. Our role does not end when a case concludes. We believe part of our responsibility is helping clients find the resources, support, and opportunities they need to move forward and, when they choose, to create a lasting impact in the lives of others.
David W. Craig Shares Four Decades of Experience Representing Truck Wreck Victims and Their Families
Representing clients who are catastrophically injured or killed due to the negligence of someone else is very personal for Managing Partner David W. Craig. “I feel an attachment to my clients that is hard to describe. We spend so much time together, my clients become like my family.” David takes pride in the level of trust his clients have given him during the most difficult and critical times of their lives. “Helping people through this process is emotionally rigorous, and if I didn’t genuinely love my clients and feel an obligation to do my best for them, I couldn’t show up for them the way I do every single day.” For more than 40 years, David has passionately served the victims of commercial motor vehicle wrecks, and he, along with the rest of the firm, is humbled by the knowledge that our work can truly change our clients’ lives.
David’s hope is that despite unimaginable hardship and legal battle, he is able to show truck accident victims and their families that there is a way to survive this tragedy, that you do not have to go through this alone, and that while life will never be the same, the future can be bright and more secure than you can imagine at this moment.
If you need more information, David’s book Semitruck Wreck: A Guide for Victims and Their Families is available on Amazon, as a downloadable pdf on the Craig, Kelley & Faultless website, or email David and he will mail you a copy. “You are the reason I decided to write this book,” David says. His goal is to empower victims and loved ones by sharing advice designed to protect them as they navigate loss, grief, and a complicated legal process.
