Not much is scarier on Halloween than an accident involving a semi. That is exactly what happened on October 31, 2026, around 7 a.m.
What We Know
The accident occurred on Highway 36 at the Mitchell Road in Chillicothe, Missouri. A semi and a car collided with each other. The semi then hit a guard rail, overturned, and hit a pickup truck. A fourth vehicle then hit the semi-trailer. Several people were injured.
Truck Accident Attorney Analysis
Accidents involving several vehicles and a semi tractor-trailer are not like ordinary car accidents. The laws and rules that apply to a semi are different from those that apply to the drivers of the cars and pick-up truck. The brakes, data that can be downloaded, and the mechanical equipment are different. Timing is an issue in a truck accident case because the trucking company would have begun taking steps to protect itself and its driver immediately following the wreck.
Steps To Be Taken Following Semi Accidents
- Hire an experienced semi-truck accident attorney as soon as possible. Pick an attorney with the experience, knowledge, and resources to protect you and your family. It doesn’t cost more to hire the best, and most, if not all, personal injury attorneys work on a contingency fee. This means they don’t get paid until or unless they are able to collect a settlement or judgement on your behalf.
- Secure the evidence. A download of the semi’s Electronic Control Module (ECM) needs to be done before the data is destroyed or altered. This will tell you the speed of the semi, braking, and other important information. Also download the air bag module of the four-wheel vehicles before these vehicles are repaired or destroyed. Your truck accident attorney will do this.
- Do a background check on the safety record of the semi driver and the trucking company. Your truck accident attorney will do this.
- Send a Rapid Response Team to the scene of the wreck and look for cameras that might have captured the wreck. Have them locate and inspect the vehicles. Have them send preservation of evidence letters to preserve and protect all key evidence. A truck accident lawyer will do this.
- Hire an accident reconstructionist to determine how the wreck occurred and who all is at fault for causing the wreck. Do not rely solely on the police, the trucking company, or the insurance carriers to decide who is at fault. You need someone whose only job is to protect you. A truck accident attorney will know who to hire to determine the true cause of the wreck. A truck accident attorney will do this.
- Hire private investigator to get taped statements from other participants in the wreck or witnesses. A truck accident attorney will do this.
