Twenty-seven years ago, David W. Craig, Scott A. Faultless and William “B.J.” Kelley founded Craig, Kelley & Faultless right here in Lawrence, Indiana. In 1999, the three attorneys set out to launch their own practice, originally working out of the Craig family home in Lawrence before opening the firm’s headquarters on Lawton Loop within the Fort Benjamin Harrison historic district. In fact, the office, 5845 Lawton Loop E Dr, is on the National Register of Historic Places.
With 10 attorneys and over 40 employees with a variety of career backgrounds, our team works tirelessly to support, uplift and fight for victims of serious injuries, truck accidents, and wrongful death. And since the firm’s opening, everyone at Craig, Kelley & Faultless has worked to give back to the public that supported the firm from the beginning and made it a pillar of the Lawrence community.
Located in the Fort Benjamin Harrison Historic District
Fort Benjamin Harrison came to fruition after the Spanish-American War and was one of several military installations that contributed to maintaining an expanded national army of almost 10,000 people. Over the years, the fort has been a training ground, an Army hospital, a prisoner of war camp, a soldier support center, and more. Now, the fort has heavily reduced its operations. About 70 percent of the post was converted into Fort Benjamin Harrison State Park, and close to 50 buildings have been converted for residential, commercial, and office use.
The green space inside the Loop previously served as a parade field that was home to activities at the fort for much of its history. Many of the buildings on the Loop included officers’ family residences, bachelor officers’ quarters, the fire station, the Post Exchange, the band barracks, and more. The Craig, Kelley & Faultless office originally served as the fort’s Administration Building. Fort Ben has remained a focal point of the Lawrence community for over a century, and each of the businesses that are now part of this historic district help to maintain its centrality in the township.
The Employees Who Call Lawrence Home
The Lawrence community is considered a home away from home for everyone at the firm, and even more so for the employees who actually live in Lawrence Township. The Craig family has planted their roots in Lawrence in both their work and personal lives. David and his wife Dana grew their family and their business in the community, creating a home for themselves in Lawrence beyond just their physical property. David and Dana’s children attended Lawrence schools, and David was once a member of the Board of Directors for the Lawrence Township Basketball League when his children still played in the league.
Attorney and partner Alexander Craig attended schools that are part of the Metropolitan School District of Lawrence Township (MSDLT), including Indian Creek Elementary, Fall Creek Valley Middle School, and graduated from Lawrence North High School in 2005. He has coached a recreation boys’ basketball team in the Lawrence Township Basketball League.
Bobby Craig is a co-owner of Impact Video who handles the law firm’s settlement and marketing videos. He is a proud graduate of MSDLT schools, where he attended Indian Creek Elementary, Craig Middle School, and Lawrence North High School before graduating in 2011. He played soccer for the high school and was an All-County honoree. He was heavily involved in producing the school’s morning news program, which ultimately led him to a career in video production. Likewise, Aaron Sherman, also a co-owner of Impact Video, went through MSDLT schools and graduated from Lawrence North High School in 2011. He participated in swimming and cross-country running, in addition to taking part in many of the art and music classes offered by Lawrence schools. For Aaron and Bobby, the Lawrence school system brought them together as friends and eventually business partners. The law firm’s Principal Software Engineer Nick Perin was a student at Forest Glen Elementary School, Fall Creek Valley Middle School, and graduated from Lawrence North High School in 2011. The friendship he cultivated with Bobby and Aaron when they were students led him to becoming an employee of the firm. Attorney Samantha Stevens also attended school in Lawrence Township and graduated from Lawrence North High School. That is also where she met her future husband.
A long-time intern of the firm, Madison Ackley, has lived her whole life in Lawrence Township and seen how the city has developed, including how Lawton Loop has changed. Her choice to intern with Craig, Kelley & Faultless reflects the impact the firm has had on individuals in the community. As a child, her family would go on walks through the Fort Benjamin Harrison historic district, and she and her sister would run up and down the ramp attached to the front of the firm’s building, stomping their feet to create echoes off the brick walls. When she learned to ride a scooter and a bicycle, she would practice riding them up and down the ramp, too. During college, she began looking for an internship and knew the law firm she had memories of from her youth would be a great option.
Kierra Warrix, a legal assistant, has lived in Lawrence since her adolescence. She attended St. Joan of Arc Middle School and later Lawrence North High School, graduating in 2022. While attending Lawrence North, she was a member of the National Honor Society, yearbook club, and played for the varsity softball team throughout her four years there. Some of her favorite memories of growing up in Lawrence come from those high school years. She met amazing people at Lawrence North and has been close with the same group of friends from age 14 to now. Kierra keeps those friends close to her heart, cherishing that they stuck by her side and have grown with her since graduating. Kierra believes life takes a village, and her village is truly strong and amazing.
One of the firm’s receptionists, Linda Bly, has been a Lawrence resident for 45 years. She first moved to the area after marrying her husband Phillip in 1981; he is a lifetime resident of Lawrence, a Lawrence Central High School graduate, and his dental practice was located in Lawrence before he retired. Linda previously worked as a teacher at Indian Creek Elementary School before working for Craig, Kelley & Faultless as her retirement job after teaching for 36 years. Their two sons also attended Lawrence Township schools and graduated from Lawrence North High School. Linda and her husband moved to Fort Harrison in 1998 when the Army base was decommissioned and the officer homes were for sale to the public. They chose a 1906 officer’s home on Lawton Loop and restored it. The couple chose the location partially because they love the military history of the fort and because the neighborhood has so much to offer, including easy state park access from their own backyard to use biking and hiking trails, soccer and baseball parks where their sons played sports, the golf course, the Annual Fort Harrison Half Marathon on Lawton Loop, and the Heartland Film Festival Headquarters on the Fort Harrison Cultural Campus. They enjoy easy access to local restaurants, businesses, the golf course, and schools in the district. Lawton Loop is the center of many community activities for Linda and her family as well, like the Arts for Lawrence Cultural Campus and the local farmer’s market, and the loop sponsors the Vietnam Veterans Military “Memorial Wall” exhibit on the parade grounds.
Lawrence Community Outreach
The firm has worked hard over the years to ensure we give back to the communities and people that allow us to help them during some of the most difficult times in their lives, from Lawrence and beyond. As a result, Craig, Kelley & Faultless has been a sponsor of several local organizations both in Lawrence and the Greater Indianapolis area.
The firm has sponsored Fall Creek Softball & Baseball, Lawrence Township Basketball League, Indy Sprint Triathlon Series, Indiana Performing Arts Initiative, Claude McNeal Productions, Lawrence Community Safety Day, the Humane Society for Hamilton County — which includes an engraved brick in their memorial plaza — and more. Outside of sponsorships, the firm has also given out thousands of free bicycle helmets over the years to help keep everyone in the community safe, in addition to participating in and hosting community safety days. During the COVID-19 pandemic, employees delivered food to Community Hospital North. This past winter, the firm ordered an abundance of Girl Scout cookies and delivered them to Fort Harrison Assisted Living.
Along with community involvement, everyone at the firm fights to make roadways safer for everyone, whether that is done through community events, education and demonstrations, or fighting for legal changes at the state level. The firm owns driving simulation machines that they have taken all around the state to help educate people on the dangers associated with drunk driving and texting while driving. They even donated one of these machines to the Lawrence Fire Department. When a case the firm represents involves a dangerous condition or practice that causes harm to others, our attorneys insist on including a correction in the settlement.
Furthermore, the attorneys of Craig, Kelley & Faultless regularly take cases to trial when the companies they are fighting refuse to make things right.
