🚨 Who Pays After a Semi-Truck Crash? Insurance Explained
If you've ever wondered who actually pays after a semi-truck crash, here's what most people don't realize.
⠀
A car accident usually comes down to one driver's insurance policy.
⠀
➡️ A truck accident is different, because coverage can be layered across the motor carrier, a broker, a shipper, and a logistics company.
⠀
As a board-certified truck accident attorney, one of only four in Indiana, I've seen the worst commercial truck drivers carry only $750,000 to $1 million in coverage, which isn't always enough after a serious crash.
⠀
Understanding how commercial trucking insurance and liability work means digging into every responsible party tied to that load, not just the driver.
⠀
💬 Did you know trucking companies can have several layers of insurance most people never uncover?

Do you think that it matters whether it is a truck case or a car crash case when you're looking at who's going to pay? I'm David Craig. I'm a board-certified truck accident attorney, and these are the trucking truths. The reason it matters is that the worst truck drivers out there have only $750,000 or $1 million worth of coverage.
Now, when it's a car crash, you just look and say, "how much insurance is on that vehicle and the driver." But in a truck case, you need to look and see how much insurance applies to this particular wreck. And it can vary. First of all, there could be tiers or different levels of insurance with a particular trucking company, and you need a truck accident attorney to dig through all that and make sure they're discovering all the different tiers of insurance.
But on top of that, there may be other responsible parties like a broker, a shipper, a logistics company, and those companies may have their own insurance. So if a lawyer treats a truck accident the same as a car crash, they may just collect from the truck driver who may not have enough insurance to cover all the losses. But a good truck accident attorney is going to dig deep and find all the different insurance coverages, find all the different responsible people, and hold them all accountable so that you can collect what is fair and what is owing to you.
And that's the truth.
