Truck Safety Advocate Harry Adler to Present at Seminar

Harry Adler is a principal and co-founder of the Institute for Safer Trucking (IST), a non-profit organization that implements data-drive solutions to reduce crashes, injuries, and fatalities that involve trucks. He previously worked for the Truck Safety Coalition in various roles, including Executive Director. Over the course of his time working in the truck safety space, Adler has built lasting connections with lawmakers, safety advocates, the media, and the victims and survivors of truck wrecks across the country. This year, he will be sharing his experience with truck safety at the “Winning Truck Wreck Cases” seminar on August 4, 2025.

The seminar is co-chaired by David W. Craig and Scott A. Faultless of Craig, Kelley & Faultless, presented by the Indiana Trial Lawyers Association and will include several other speakers sharing their knowledge of the trucking industry and truck accident law.

Seminar Speaker Harry Adler

Adler’s presentation, “Trucking Safety Concerns”, will be held during the seminar’s afternoon session. Large truck accidents happen every day, and many of them are a result of general safety concerns when operating large commercial motor vehicles. In order to understand the full breadth of a truck wreck case, attorneys and paralegals should be aware of the many safety issues involving trucks and how those problems can contribute to a client’s case.

IST’s top priorities involve advocating for top-end speed limiters, automatic emergency braking, underride protections, dual facing cameras, tire pressure monitoring systems, and intelligent speed assistance on large trucks and other commercial motor vehicles. All of these devices help address common safety concerns with big trucks, such as speeding, blind spots, braking in time, and preventing cars from going underneath semi-trailers. The non-profit also encourages truck companies to increase the minimum insurance rates and pushes for broker accountability in accidents.

Adler’s session will focus on how each of these safety concerns can lead to large truck crashes, how people can advocate for the solutions to these concerns, and how trucking companies’ lack of safety measures can affect the outcome and value of a client’s case.

Achievements Outside of IST

While Adler dedicates most of his time to IST, he has dedicated his time to truck safety in other ways. During his undergraduate years, Adler interned in all three branches of the federal government and with the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT).

Most recently, he was named one of the 16 members of the new Advisory Committee on Underride Protection for USDOT. Underride guards are one of IST’s top safety priorities. While large trucks are currently required to have underride guards on the back of a trailer to prevent cars from going underneath in the event of an accident, IST and other groups advocate to enforce guards on the sides of trailers as well.
